Dr. John W. Weigel is a professor of Urologic Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Born and raised in Kansas, Dr. Weigel received his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Weigel completed his residency in urology at Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio. His army career included tours in Vietnam and Japan. He left the Army with the rank of colonel as director of the Urology Residency Program at Fitsimons Army Hospital, Denver, CO.
Dr. Weigel has practiced urology at the University of Kansas Medical Center for over 30 years. In May of 2002, Dr. Weigel was honored with the Gold Cane Award from the American Urological Association, an honor presented annually to a senior urologist for outstanding contributions to the field of Urology and the American Urological Association. Dr. Weigel is a member of the American Urological Association, the South Central Section, Urology Interantionale, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has served on numerous committees and is a past president of the South Central Section of the American Urological Association, Kansas City Urologic Society, and the Kansas chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He has been an examiner for the American Board of Urology.
Dr. Weigel has received numerous other honors including the Meritorious Sevice Medal from the US Army, the Alpha Omega Alpha Alumni award, many awards for outstanding teaching to students and residents, and the Physician's Recognition Award.
Dr. Weigel specializes in general urology, benign prostate diseases, laser prostate surgery, erectile dysfunction, and vasectomies.. He has extensive experience in the field and been listed in the Best Doctors in American and in Best Doctors in Kansas City. He has over 400 publications and presentations.
